Obituary and Funeral Arrangements: Sara Elizabeth Barfield, 78, of Loganville

BARFIELD - Sara Elizabeth Barfield, age 78 of Loganville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 27, 2013. Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, July 29, 2013 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Pastor Don Richards will officiate. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville. 

Mrs. Barfield was preceded in death by her parents, Shellie and George Thompson, and three brothers, Tyrus, Harley, and Jim Thompson. She is survived by her Loving Husband of 60 years, William Edward Barfield, Sr.; Daughter & Son-in-law: Linda Diane & Don Downs, Loganville; Son & Daughter-in-law: Ed Jr. & Kathy Barfield, Monroe; Grandchildren: Christopher & Daniel Downs, Loganville; April & Dustin Pass, Hoschton; Matthew & Caitlin Barfield, Monroe; Great Grandchild: Hunter Pass; Sisters: Betty Elrod & Imogene James, both of Goldsboro, NC; Brother: Ralph Thompson, Snellville. 

Mrs. Barfield was born on November 3, 1934 in Swainsboro, GA. Sara was married to her beloved husband, Edward, on November 8, 1952. Sara, in her early years, sang on the radio with “The Logan Sisters,” and worked at Woolworth Dept. Store in Atlanta. She also worked for Dekalb County Police Department, where she was on the policemen pistol team and won several awards. She was also the first woman to be put in the policeman’s annual wearing the new uniform for the police school crossing guards. She retired as a secretary from Kentucky Central Life Insurance Company. Mrs. Barfield had been a devoted member of Corinth Baptist Church, Loganville, since 1978. She loved her church. Sara’s greatest joy in life was being a wonderful Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
