Police Investigate Shooting Incident at Bay Creek Park

No one was apparently injured in the Oct. 6 incident, Gwinnett Police said.

Gwinnett Police are investigating a reported shooting incident recently at Bay Creek Park.

No one was apparently wounded in the Oct. 6 incident, which according to a witness began with an argument of some kind, police said.

“The witness said that he was playing basketball when he witnessed a physical altercation take place between three males,” police spokesman Cpl. Deon Washington said in a news release. “During the altercation, two of the three males began shoving each other which led to a fight. During the fight, one of the males produced a gun. As one of the males began to run away, the gun was fired.”

A portion of the incident was captured on a cell phone video camera, police said.

“At this point, police have not identified a victim or the suspects involved in the shooting,” Washington said. “Everyone involved fled the scene and there is no reason to believe that anyone was struck by the gunfire. This was an isolated incident that was not gang-related.”

Washington said detectives have recently established “very credible“ leads in the shooting and patrols have increased both day and night at the park and the surrounding area.

“Police will continue the high visibility patrol to ensure that the safety of the park is maintained,” he said.
