Snellville Teen Given 140 Years After Woman Shot 19 Times: Report

A Lawrenceville judge gave Damia Mitchell, of Snellville, a 140-year sentence in connection with the shooting death of Faith Burns.

LOGANVILLE, GA — A Lawrenceville judge gave a 17–year-old girl a 140-year sentence Monday after she was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, three counts of aggravated assault and eight counts of street gang terrorism, WSB-TV reported.

Damia Mitchell, of Snellville, was wanted in connection with the shooting death of a Loganville woman on Valentine’s Day in 2021. Investigators said she shot and killed Faith Burns, 20, in what police call a "domestic-related homicide."

According to WSB-TV, Mitchell fired up to 19 shots at the Dacula home of Burns. Police said that Mitchell and Burns did not know each other, but that Burns knew Mitchell’s ex-girlfriend. Mitchell turned herself in the day of the shooting

Prosecutors argued that the shooting was a gang-related ex-lovers’ quarrel. The four other girls who went to the home were charged along with Mitchell.

Mitchell’s family told WSB that her sentence is too much.

“I just know something needs to be done. What they did in court wasn’t right,” said Vanissa Jackson, Mitchell’s mother. “She is not the shooter. She didn’t do this.”
