Suspected Walmart Thief Given Second Chance, Still Steals

The woman was allegedly caught with unpaid grocery items after she was seen going through the self-checkout lane at the store in Loganville.

It's not often when an accused shoplifter gets a second chance at Walmart, but that's exactly what happened at the store in Loganville on a recent Saturday. And yet, the suspect still tried to steal merchandise.

According to the Loganville Police report, authorities arrived at the 4221 Atlanta Hwy. store at 7:04 p.m. on a recent Saturday after receiving a call about the theft.

The loss prevention officer said she approached the suspect, a 57-year-old Jefferson woman, after seeing her attempt to leave without paying. The woman claimed that she wasn't leaving the store, so the employee gave her a chance to pay.

The woman went through the self-checkout but apparently failed to pay for all her items. Among the items taken were: mayonnaise, salad dressing, ketchup, carrots, veggie snacks and a can of chicken breast, all totaling $15.43.

The woman was arrested and charged with theft by shoplifting and criminal trespassing. The trespassing charge came when the loss prevention officer found security records from 2010 of the woman shoplifting at another Walmart store.
