Teen Arrested, Charged in Bay Creek Park Shooting Incident

He has been charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct stemming from the Oct. 6 incident.

Gwinnett Police have arrested a suspect in a recent shooting incident at Bay Creek Park near Loganville.

Dallas Chandler Root, 19, has been charged with aggravated assault and reckless conduct stemming from the Oct. 6 incident, during which three males reportedly argued and fought before a gun was fired.

Root, who was arrested Wednesday night in Snellville, is a Conyers resident, according to jail records.

According to a Thursday morning news release:

During the course of this investigation, the lead detective in this case determined that Dallas Chandler Root (age 19) was the suspect in the shooting at Bay Creek Park.

On Wednesday, October 21, shortly after 9pm, officers assigned to the South Precinct Evening Watch, K9 Unit, Criminal Investigations – Gang Unit, and Snellville Police responded to 1925 North Road in Snellville. The officers made contact with a resident who confirmed that Root was inside the home. Once inside the residence, the officers located the suspect in a bathroom of the home. Root was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail.

According to a witness, two of the three males began shoving each other, which led to a fight. As one of the males bagn to run away, the gun was fired. The lead investigator identified Root as the suspect.

No one was wounded in the incident, police believe.
