Upcoming Transit Contract Referendum Open Houses To Be Held

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Gwinnett County residents will go to the polls March 19 to vote on a contract for the provision of expanded transit services. If the referendum passes, Gwinnett’s transit system and services will expand based on Gwinnett’s transit plan and its contract with MARTA. The expansion will be funded through a one-cent sales tax for transit.

The contract provides control to Gwinnett over funds, expenditures, projects, and services. It requires Gwinnett funds to be spent for the benefit of Gwinnett. It sets Gwinnett’s transit plan, Connect Gwinnett, as the source of transit projects. It also provides Gwinnett with three seats on the MARTA board.

To better educate the community on the upcoming transit contract referendum, Gwinnett County will be hosting open houses over the next few weeks.

Gwinnett residents will have the opportunity to learn what the Connect Gwinnett Transit Plan and the proposed MARTA contract entails, and ask questions to better understand how it will impact them, if passed. Upcoming dates include:

• Wednesday, January 30 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. George Pierce Park Community Recreation Center in Suwanee
• Monday, February 4 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Lucky Shoals Park Community Recreation Center in Norcross
• Thursday, February 7 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Duluth City Hall in Duluth
• Saturday, February 9 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. OneStop Norcross in Norcross
• Monday, February 11 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Dacula Park Activity Building inDacula
• Tuesday, February 12 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Sugar Hill City Hall in Sugar Hill
• Thursday, February 21 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Shorty Howell Park Activity Building in Duluth
• Saturday, February 23 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Snellville City Hall in Snellville
