Voices from the City: Grayson City Administrator Laura Paul-Cone

In response to three questions, which will routinely be asked of city officials, here is what Grayson City Administrator Laura Paul-Cone had to say.

Officials in Loganville and Grayson will be asked to respond to three questions from time to time. This will give residents the opportunity to find out a little more about what is going on in the city - and to get to know their public officials a little better. Here is what Grayson City Administrator Laura Paul-Cone had to say.

Question 1 - What is new in your department?

The  most recent changes are that the Mayor and Council have set a budget which will allow the residents to receive their sanitation service at no charge to them. The city will be absorbing the cost for sanitation for all residents within  the city limits.  Our other new addition to the budget is the Downtown Development Authority funding which will provide the DDA the necessary funds to actually operate properly and to create a Business Incubator program which will help new businesses get started.  The creation of new businesses will benefit everyone and offer more opportunities for our residents.

Question 2 - What is something residents should know?

Our residents should know that the Mayor and City Council work for free.  Yes, they are elected but they are not paid.  They serve simply as volunteers for what many would consider a "thankless" job. And the scope of their work is more than simply attending once-a-month council meetings.  They also attend meetings with the county and other municipalities and put in time planning and preparing and researching all decisions in order to be sure that they are making the best possible decisions for the City of Grayson.

Question 3 - What is your favorite way to relax?

Well, we have a pretty big family.  Four kids plus a daughter-in-law so we say we have five kids.  I love to cook big meals and have all of our kids home at the same time sitting around the table lovingly abusing one another as only a family can.  Our other favorite thing to do is go to our cabin in the mountains of Clayton, GA.  We get up there as often as possible. We spend our time going on hikes in the forest and taking our English Springer Spaniel, Glory, swimming.  We are looking forward to fall weekends at the cabin cheering on our beloved Georgia Bulldogs!
