Voting Begins in the Loganville City Council Special Election

Loganville city residents can now vote at City Hall for one of the two candidates who qualified to run for the seat vacated by former Councilman Dan Curry.

Eary voting began May 28, 2013 for former Councilman Dan Curry's seat. Two candidates qualified for the seat, former Walton County District 2 Commissioner Chuck Bagley and newcomer Jay Boland. Curry resigned to run to serve out the remainder of the late Mayor Ray Nunley's term. He was the only candidate to qualify and is effectively the mayor-elect. His name, however, will still appear on the June 18 Special Election ballot and he won't be able to be sworn in until after the election, according to Loganville city officials.

Boland wasted no time in getting his vote in. He and his wife, Wendy, were at City Hall Tuesday morning where early voting has already begun. He said he has been working the neighborhoods in advance of the election and is "excited" by the response he has received.

This special election is as a result of the mayoral seat that was vacated by the late Mayor Ray Nunley. Nunley passed away last month after battling cancer since a diagnosis in November last year. He had already stepped down and thrown his support behind Curry's candidacy. Councilman Mark Kiddoo was voted vice mayor at the April city council meeting and is the acting mayor until Curry is sworn in.
