GA Gas Gauge: Lowest Christmas Prices Since 2008

The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Georgia continues to sit below $1.95 a gallon, according to data released by AAA.
Georgia’s average gas price was $1.942 on Sunday, down from $1.946 on Saturday but slightly higher than last week’s average of $1.94. Gas cost $2.03 a month ago and $2.39 a year ago, AAA says.
AAA expects the national average gas price to drop below $2 a gallon on Monday, the first time the average gas price has been under that mark since March of 2009.

“A global oversupply of oil has led to the lowest gas prices for the year-end holidays since 2008,” said AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins in a statement. “This will make travel more affordable for the 91.3 million Americans forecast to drive during the next two weeks.”

The lowest price reported Monday in Midtown on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $2.19, though several stations within city limits had gas at or less than $2.
