Georgia Tech Recruit Says He Was Harassed by Campus Police

The recruit withdrew his commitment following the incident on Saturday, according to a report. Campus police are investigating.

A Georgia Tech football recruit no longer plans to play for the Yellow Jackets after he said he was harassed by campus police at a football game over the weekend.

“I’ve decided to decommit from Georgia Tech,” Ed White High School offensive lineman Jordan Johnson tweeted Sunday afternoon. “I had a bad experience at yesterday’s game. I would [like] to say thank you to all of the faculty and staff.”

Jordan spoke with Tech fan site From the Rumble Seat and said he was harassed by a Georgia Tech police officer after he and his brother returned from a concession stand and saw their mother being told she had to leave the game because she didn’t have a ticket.

Jordan said that he was wearing the lanyard given to recruits and their guests during the game instead of a ticket, and said he showed his lanyard to the officer. The officer then allegedly accused Jordan of forging the lanyard. Jordan allegedly threatened to decommit but claimed the officer said that he would still have a job no matter what Jordan did.

Georgia Tech has provided the following statement reflecting the latest developments in their investigation:

The Georgia Tech Police Department review of the complaint confirms the initial assessment as a miscommunication about seating and credentials in a section. The family was among those who were inappropriately sitting in the section and asked to relocate as part of a general sweep. Officials have been in contact with the family and are continuing to review the matter.
