Man Who Allegedly Shot Officer Arrested

Anthony Williams was arrested at a MARTA station without incident, Atlanta police said. He is suspected of shooting an officer Monday.

ATLANTA, GA -- Atlanta police have arrested a man they say opened fire and wounded an officer during a traffic stop on Monday morning.

Anthony Bernard Williams was taken into custody at the West Lake MARTA station without incident at approximately 11:55 a.m. Wednesday, according to a bulletin from police.

Williams allegedly shot and wounded an officer conducting a traffic stop on an allegedly carjacked vehicle on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard near the Providence at Cascade apartment complex around 2 a.m. Monday , WSB-TV said.

The driver of the vehicle allegedly jumped out of the car and charged the officers, while Williams allegedly opened fire. WSB-TV says both the officer and the other suspect were wounded by Williams’ bullets, while the officer wounded Williams in return.

The officer and the suspect were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and both are expected to survive, WSB-TV said.

Williams was shot in the leg and buttocks during the gun battle and was transported to Grady following his arrest, police said Wednesday.

The Atlanta Police Fugitive Unit, the FBI’s Atlanta Metropolitan Major Offenders (AMMO) Task Force, and the U.S. Marshal Service’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Force (SERFTF) took part in the operation, police said.
