Police Arrest Atlanta Man Suspected in Vehicle Break-ins

The Atlanta man who police say is behind a string of entering auto cases in Sandy Springs has been arrested.

Detectives with the Sandy Springs Police Department have charged Kelton Jackson, 28, with nine counts of entering auto in connection to several car break-ins that occurred in the city in April. 

Jackson was arrested after Sandy Springs detectives were able to track him down at an extended stay hotel in DeKalb County, the agency said in a press release. An "alert" homeowner was able to obtain the tag number of a vehicle Jackson used to leave his house, Sandy Springs police.

Jackson has an "extensive criminal history" including various larcenies, drug and weapons charges, the agency added.

Police encourage residents to take that extra step in preventing thefts from vehicles. Jackson told investigators that "these crimes were made easy by people leaving items in plain sight inside vehicles."

Some of the items left inside these vehicles include golf clubs, credit cards, purses, wallets, laptop computers, jewelry, clothing and cash. 

Police strongly recommends citizens remove all valuables from their vehicles, even if they are parked in their driveways. If you're heading out to a shopping center, place items in the trunk or out of view before you arrive to your destination.
