Thieves Break into Atlanta Police Patrol Car (Updated)

The thieves made off with a duffle bag belonging to an officer, according to a police report.

An Atlanta police officer investigating a shots fired call got a rude surprise when thieves broke into his patrol car and stole a bag containing personal items overnight Monday.

The officer had been given two reports of shots fired at the complex at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, and parked his patrol car at the top of the complex, a police report says. The officer found one alleged caller who said she did not call police, and discovered a second address he was given did not exist. Upon returning to his patrol car, he saw that the driver side window had been smashed in with a concrete brick.

The brick had flown through the window, hit the car’s computer, then flew back and wedged itself between the passenger side headrest and the door frame, the report says. Thieves stole a bag out of the officer’s car, and officers were unable to recover the bag after canvassing the area.

Earlier Sunday night, a similar situation played out at the complex; an officer was dispatched to the complex in reference to a fight at 10:22 p.m. and learned the fight was a verbal dispute between the caller and her daughter. When he returned to his car, he discovered that someone had thrown a brick at the window of his patrol car. The brick did not break the window and only damaged the door frame and scratched the window, according to the same report.
