Tiffany Haddish Cancels Atlanta Show Over New GA Abortion Law
Haddish is protesting Georgia's new Heartbeat bill, which outlaws abortions after six weeks. The Fox Theatre is offering refunds.

ATLANTA -- Actress Tiffany Haddish has canceled her upcoming Atlanta show at Midtown's Fox Theatre over Georgia's new abortion law, known as the Heartbeat Bill. Over the weekend, Haddish sent a statement to ticketholders, saying, “After much deliberation, I am postponing my upcoming show in Atlanta. I love the state of Georgia, but I need to stand with women and until they withdraw Measure HB481, I cannot in good faith perform there." The Fox Theatre is offering refunds.
Haddish is the latest celebrity to speak out against the law, which is set to take effect Jan. 1, 2020. The bill, authored by a suburban Atlanta lawmaker, it outlaws most abortions after about six weeks, which is when a fetal heartbeat is usually first detected. It would allow abortions in cases where the mother's life or health is in danger, or in cases of medical emergency. It also says an unborn child at any stage of development in the womb would be included in state population-based counts.
The bill was supported and signed by Gov. Brian Kemp earlier this year.

According to the AJC, demand was not very high for Haddish's June 22 concert. Stubhub still had fourth-row seats available for just over $56, tickets that had a face value of $120.
Georgia is one of the world's top locations for film and TV production, mostly due to tax breaks and other policies that Kemp's predecessor, Nathan Deal, endorsed. However, two upcoming productions in Georgia are the state's first entertainment casualties as a result of the bill. Amazon's series "The Power" is the first TV production to leave Georgia after Kemp signed the law. Emmy-winning director Reed Morano is pulling the Amazon series from shooting in Georgia. Also, actress Kristin Wiig and her collaborator, Annie Mumolo, have canceled shoots in Georgia for their upcoming film "Barb and Star Go to Vista del Mar."

Until recently, the Hollywood uproar to the bill has been limited to mostly lesser known stars and small production companies, but recently Oscar-winning director Ron Howard said he would boycott Georgia if the bill goes into effect next year.
