Troutman Sanders Hires Two to Banking Practice

Troutman Sanders said it hired James W. Stevens and Richard R. Cheatham to its Financial Institutions practice in Atlanta.

Both attorneys, who combined, bring more than 50 years of legal experience and expertise and experience, come from Kilpatrick Townsend.

Stevens comes in as partner in the firm, Cheatham as senior counsel.

“James and Richard have established reputations in Atlanta and the state of Georgia for their knowledge and experience representing clients in the community banking industry,” Thomas O. Powell, a partner and deputy practice leader of the firm’s Financial Institutions practice group, said in a statement.

“Their addition to our recognized Financial Institutions practice will deepen our bench strength and further enhance our ability to deliver creative solutions to clients operating in an increasingly complex business and regulatory environment.”

Stevens, a graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, has focused his practice on representing publicly traded and privately held firms and financial institutions in mergers and acquisitions. He also has counseled clients on securities offerings and regulatory reporting and compliance.

Cheatham is a Harvard Law School graduate and centers his practice around representing financial institutions in bank regulatory matters as well as corporate and securities laws as they apply to financial institutions, their holding companies and other affiliates.
