Tuesday: 'American Idol' Auditions Set For Piedmont Park In Midtown
'American Idol' is coming to Georgia: Auditions are planned for Piedmont Park on Tuesday, August 22.

ATLANTA, GA -- Do you have what it takes to be the next Kelly Clarkston, Adam Lambert or Jordin Sparks? "American Idol" is coming to Atlanta to hold auditions in Piedmont Park this week.
The auditions are set for Tuesday, August 22 at Oak Hill in the Midtown park. "American Idol," now in its 16th season, will feature a panel of celebrity judges as usual. Gone are the judges of yesteryear: "It's a no for me, dog" Randy Johnson and the permanent-scowl-faced Simon Cowell. This season, music star Katy Perry has signed on. Ryan Seacrest and Kieth Urban are reportedly thisclose to rejoining the show as well.

In 2002, "Idol" debuted on Fox. The singing competition quickly gained traction among American viewers and has inspired a host of similarly formatted shows, including "The Voice," "America's Got Talent" and more.

"Idol" also has close ties to metro Atlanta. Ryan Seacrest is from Dunwoody High School. Also, Philip Philips, who actually won the contest, hails from here as well. Diana DeGarmo from Snellville and Bo Bice of Cumming are just some of the singers who hail from the state.
