WellStar Buys Five Metro Hospitals

The healthcare company is expanding its footprint in Atlanta by purchasing the Atlanta Medical Center and other facilities.

WellStar Health System has agreed to purchase five hospitals previously owned by Tenet Healthcare in the metro Atlanta area.

The hospitals changing hands as a result of the deal are Atlanta Medical Center and its South Campus, North Fulton Hospital, Spalding Regional Hospital, and Sylvan Grove Hospital, according to a press release.

All told, the facilities contain 1,192 beds, 1,390 physicians and advance practice professionals, and a total staff of 4,300. Once purchased, the hospitals will become nonprofits in the WellStar system.

WellStar will be better suited to address changes in the healthcare industry.”
