Georgia DNR To Offer Canoeing Instruction Just 25 Miles from Monroe

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources offers canoe instruction at its Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources shared information on a program it's offering at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center near Mansfield, Ga. The program offers wildlife enthusiasts an opportunity to get back to the basics on the water in the form of canoeing instruction. The class will take place on July 20.

“For many people, just getting into a canoe is an intimidating thought. We can’t wait to shatter those thoughts and give people a huge sense of accomplishment when they are able to confidently take that canoe out on the water,” said Jody Rice, the training and development specialist at Charlie Elliott.

The canoeing basics program at Charlie Elliott is one of seven regional education centers operated by DNR’s Wildlife Resources Division. According to a press release from the Georgia DNR, it will give participants the chance to learn the fundamentals of canoeing, paddling, safety, rescue and gear. Participants don't even need a canoe. Canoes, paddles and a life vest will be provided.  Attendees, however, should bring a lunch, sunscreen and water. They should also be prepared to get wet!
