Fireworks at Freedom Fest in Monroe

Despite a storm and heavy downpour at dark, the organizers of Freedom Fest waited it out and the fireworks display went on, albeit a little later than planned.

The firework display at Freedom Fest was due to get under way at "dark," but as dark approached, so did the storm clouds. Organizers held off until the storm had passed before setting off the fireworks. While the thunder showers sent many home, those who stuck it out said it was worth the wait - and the soaking.

"We were soaked to our undies but we stuck it out," Amanda Peppers wrote on the Monroe-GA Patch Facebook page.

"We stopped on Hwy 78 for a few minutes," wrote Brandi Lynn West.

"Kudoes to those who battled the weather and put on a great show," wrote Amylee Hammond Dire. It was a beautiful display and obviously a lot of hard work went into it."

Others left, thinking that there would likely be no display in light of the heavy downpour. A special thank you to Brandi and Amanda for sharing pictures of the fireworks with Patch. If anyone else has pictures to share on Patch, please email them to sharon.swanepoel@patch.com.
