UPDATE: Freedom Fest Rescheduled to Saturday, July 6th
UPDATE: This has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 6th, due to possibility of torrential rain and thunderstorms on July 4th.

Freedom Fest and any other activities planned for July Fourth 2013 stand the chance of having to contend with the possibility of torrential rain and storms, according to the National Weather Channel. Organizers of the event, however, say no contingency plans are being considered - not at this point anyway. Similar predictions have been made in the past without any impact to July Fourth activities.
The Weather Channel, however, issued the significant weather alert for the rest of the week and has urged people to keep an eye on conditions to be on the safe side.
The alert reads:
... PROLONGED PERIOD OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS AND VERY HEAVY RAINFALL LIKELY TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY...
... FOURTH OF JULY OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES WILL LIKELY BE IMPACTED...
According to the alert, a stagnant, yet vigorous upper level pattern is bring together ingredients that could produce a "prolonged period of thunderstorms and very heavy rainfall across north and central Georgia for much of this week." It warns that persons planning outdoor activities this week, including on July Fourth, should monitor the latest forecasts and begin making contingency plans in case hazardous weather threatens.

Organizers of Freedom Fest, however, are not deterred. The show will go on, they say. Weather predictions do not always come to pass - sometimes the system goes just enough to the north or south of the local area so as not to have any impact. With bands booked, etc. it is difficult to cancel or reschedule.
Freedom Fest is a Christian community event hosted by volunteers from churches and other organizations such as Faith in Serving Humanity, the Rock Student Center as well as others. Fireworks are fired off by the City of Monroe and Walton County fire departments and bands and other free activities are provided for the community. The event, which takes place at the Old Monroe High School Legion Field at 6 p.m. on July Fourth. It is usually attended by several thousand people and culminates with the fireworks at dark.
