Park Place Nursing Home in Monroe Struck by Lightning

A fire had been called in at an address on Spruce Lane at the same time.

A sudden storm Friday afternoon had emergency personnel in Monroe scrambling.

According to Lt. Bill Owens, public information officer for Monroe Fire Department, crews were despatched to a fire at a Spruce Lane address at the same time as a call came in reporting a lightning strike at Park Place Nursing Home. Walton County Fire Rescue crews also responded, Owens confirmed.

"When crews arrived at Park Place there was nothing showing," Owens said, adding some moments later that the units were returning to service.

The fire at the Spruce Lane address was quickly knocked down, Owens said. He was not sure whether a lightning strike also was responsible for the fire at Spruce Lane.
