• Piedmont University congratulates local students on the fall semester dean's List (monroelocal.org) — Several Monroe students have earned spots on Piedmont University’s Fall 2025 Dean’s List, celebrating their strong academic performance with GPAs between 3.50 and 3.99. The list includes multiple Monroe and nearby Walton County students recognized for their hard work.
   

• 14,000 chickens killed when poultry house catches fire at processing plant (wsbtv.com) — Firefighters from the City of Monroe and Walton County battled a major poultry house fire on Mount Vernon Road that killed about 14,000 chickens and destroyed the building. Crews spent several hours controlling the flames, and investigators are still working to determine what caused the early-morning blaze.
   

• Work continues on water treatment plant as project set to open early 2028 (monroelocal.org) — Work on the Hard Labor Creek Reservoir water treatment plant is moving ahead on schedule, with a projected opening in early 2028 and new transmission lines planned toward Monroe-Jersey Road and Highway 138. Residents near Social Circle Fairplay Road will see temporary traffic detours as crews install major water lines, while additional phases and an Apalachee River intake facility head to construction later this year.
