Sukkah Building with MJCCA’s Teen Community Service (TCS)

Details: With Sukkot just around the corner, come join us as we build and decorate the Teen House Sukkah! Teens will earn 1.5 community service hours.Pre-registration is required.

Alignment & Strength Yoga Workshop
When: Sunday, Oct 12, 1:45-3:45 pm
Where: MJCCA at Zaban Park (5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody)
Cost: Member Adult: $20-25 / Community Adult: $35
Details: This is a dynamic alignment-based yoga workshop with linked poses and longer holds to facilitate the movement of breath and energy through the body. The emphasis is on increasing awareness and ease, while building core, arm and leg strength. This workshop is great as an addition to your more strengthening yoga classes or as a way to invite more awareness into your life.

Safe Sitting Babysitting Training
When: Sunday, October 12, 2:00-6:00 pm, and Sunday, October 19, 2:00-6:00 pm
Where: The Orkin Teen House at the MJCCA (5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody)
Who: Teens (11-15 year olds)
Cost: MJCCA Members: $120, Non-Members: $150
Details: Consisting of two 4-hour classes, the Safe Sitter: More Than Just Babysitting training offers teens the opportunity to learn the skills that every parent looks for in a baby-sitter. Safe Sitter teaches young teen babysitters the essentials of keeping themselves and the children in their care safe. Nationally recognized and pediatrician developed, this program includes child care techniques, basic first aid, rescue techniques (like choking infant and child rescue), babysitting as a business, and online and cellphone safety.

“Ribs in the Shack” Sukkot Celebration
When: Tuesday, October 14, 5:00 – 7:00 pm
Where: MJCCA at Zaban Park (5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody)
Cost: Free and open to the community. Food available for purchase.
Details: All are invited to the celebrate the holiday of Sukkot at the MJCCA with “Ribs in the
Shack.” This fun celebration features authentic Kosher BBQ Ribs from The Glatt Smokehouse with other delicious menu items. Eat in the MJCCA Sukkah and enjoy live Bluegrass music with The Cedar Hill Bluegrass Band. The program will include crafts and activities for children sponsored by the MJCCA’s Weinstein School, Israeli Scouts, and Adamah Adventures.

Fall Driver’s Education Session 2
When: Five consecutive Sundays, (October 19, October 26, November 2, November 9, and November 16), from 12:00 – 6:30 pm
Where: The Orkin Teen House at the MJCCA (5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody)
Who: Teens (Students turning 15 before November 16, 2014)
Cost: MJCCA and BBYO Members: $475, Non-Members: $505 / Open to the Community
Details: This Driver’s Ed-Dunwoody course includes 30 hours of classroom time (including State-required Alcohol and Drug Awareness training) and 6 additional hours of Behind-the-Wheel training with a licensed driver training instructor. This program is taught by Taggart’s Driving School and is licensed by the State of Georgia Department of Driver Services. (Graduates are eligible for a 10% reduction in insurance premiums and parents are eligible for $150 Georgia Income Tax Credit.) No permit is required to complete the classroom portion however, students must have a Georgia Learner’s Permit to begin the Behind-The-Wheel training.

Keeping the Mitzvah in Your Bar/Bat Mitzvah with MJCCA’s Teen Community Service (TCS)

Details: With so many things to plan for while preparing for your bar/bat mitzvah, creating a mitzvah project can be hard! Come discover your passion, and together we can develop a meaningful and fun mitzvah project! Parents are encouraged to attend with their teen. Pre-registration is required.

BBYO Connect – Adventure to Coca Cola

Details: Spend the day at the World of Coca-Cola with your BBYO Connect friends! Price includes admission, lunch, and bus transportation to and from the MJCCA. Parents are invited to attend with their teens as chaperones.

The Andy Statman Trio, In Concert, Combining Klezmer, Bluegrass, and Jazz

The Great Big Challah Bake

Relay for Life Ruach Atlanta with MJCCA’s Teen Community Service (TCS)
When: Sunday, October 26, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Where: Riverside Park
Who: Teens, Grades 10-12
Cost: Free and Open to the Community
Details: Relay for Life Ruach Atlanta is a Relay for Life event that was created in consideration for the Jewish community. Before the Ruach Atlanta event, Relay for Life events were held on Saturdays and many members of the Jewish community were unable to participate without compromising their religious beliefs. Over the past two years the program has grown considerably and we are very excited to help out this year! We will be working alongside the MJCCA’s Blonder Special Needs Department to set-up and prepare for the walk. Teens must be at least 15 years old to volunteer. Transportation will be provided to and from the MJCCA and a pizza lunch will be served for all of the volunteers upon our return to the MJCCA. Pre-registration is required. .

Blessing of the Pets at Brook Run Dog Park

Details: All animal lovers are invited to Brook Run Dog Park for an afternoon of pet-friendly fun. We will honor our animal companions and celebrate the important role that pets play in our lives. In addition to pet blessings, the event will include a dog carnival sponsored by Girl Scout Troop #10571, pet adoptions, local vendors, low cost vaccinations, and more. Participants are encouraged to bring their well-behaved leashed and caged pets of all varieties.

Blonder Social Bowling with MJCCA’s Teen Community Service (TCS)

Who: Teens, Grades 6-12
Cost: $10 (pay upon arrival)
Details: TCS and the Blonder Department for Special Needs come together for a monthly social bowling night. Have a ball (or several) while making new friends and socializing with individuals with developmental disabilities. Fee includes two games and shoe rental. Teens will earn 1 community service hour. Biggest Loser: Stick With It! Challenge

Cost: Member Adult: $225 / Community Adult: $280
Details: The Biggest Loser: Stick With It! Challenge is for adults who would like to make a positive lifestyle change and become fitter and healthier under the coaching of a professional trainer. This program is for individuals that need to lose 5% or more body weight. A Biggest Loser Pro will equip you with the expert training you need on proper workout routines, nutrition and weight management.
