Briarcliff Village Boosts Security After Carjacking

The shopping center plans to hire off-duty police officers to make the area safer between 7pm and midnight, according to the North Briarcliff Civic Association.

Briarcliff Village is boosting security at the shopping center following that spread through the Briarcliff community, the North Briarcliff Civic Association said.

From a note sent out by the association to residents:

Following the recent carjacking incident, Briarcliff Village's property management company contacted the DeKalb police and was granted permission to increase off-duty police presence during the hours of 7:00 a.m. to Midnight. There will now be 1-2 officers on foot at the shopping center every day.

The property manager stated that they communicated to the police department that they will approve any measures recommended by the department in order to ensure their customers are safe and secure (including, but not limited to # of officers, service hours, visibility/location of officers). These off-duty officers will be armed and be authorized to make arrests as needed.

NOTE:  Call 911 if you see anything suspicious or a crime being committed.
