Combat Vet Coming to North Druid Hills for WWII Roundtable
Leonard A. Meyer, a veteran of the 374th Carrier Group in the Battle of Biak as part of the New Guinea campaign of World War II, will be the ispeaker for the World War II Round Table monthly luncheon Jan. 19 at Petite Auberge restaurant.

The Atlanta World War II Roundtable is bringing one of its inspirational talks to North Druid Hills next week, according to a column in Neighbor Newspapers.

Leonard A. Meyer, a combat veteran of the 374th Carrier Group supporting the Battle of Biak as part of the New Guinea campaign of World War II in 1944, will be the inspirational and informative speaker for the World War II Round Table monthly luncheon Jan. 19 at Petite Auberge restaurant on North Druid Hills Road in DeKalb County.

Fought between the U.S. Pacific fleet and the Japanese-occupied island, the three-week battle resulted in the capture of Biak Island with 6,100 Japanese killed and 450 captured. The little-known story of this first U.S. victory in the decisive Pacific island battles extended through the grinding conflicts of Peleliu, Okinawa and Iwo Jima with staggering U.S. losses in time, life and equipment. The round table meets once a month except in July and August.
