Druid Hills Middle Soccer Takes Atlanta Championship in Game's Final Minutes

The team defeated Sutton Middle School, which has taken the title over the last three years, 3-2.

A parent at just sent me a note about last night's Metro Atlanta Soccer League championship game.

The Dragons took it. Here's the report:

The Druid Hills Middle School Boy's Club Soccer Team advanced to the Metro Atlanta Soccer League Championshp Game. The game was held tonight at 7:30pm at North Atlanta High School under the lights.

To arrive at the championship game, the DHMS soccer team defeated Path Academy 1-0, Monday evening and Renfroe Middle School 4-3, Tuesday evening. Both play-off games were nail-biters from start to finish. 

In the title game, Druid Hills MIddle School played Sutton Middle School, who had won the tournament the last 3 years. Although DHMS went down 2-0 in the first half, they came roaring back in the second half to tie the game 2-2.  Despite the strong effort by DHMS, SMS was able to score the game winner in the last 5 minutes of the game to take the trophy.

The coaches of the Druid Hills Middle School soccer team, Coach Trey Palmer and Coach Thomas Bodnar, were quite proud of the boys' tenacity, determination and effort during the tournament. The boys never gave up and fought hard to the end.

The 2011 season represented the first season DHMS has had a boy's soccer team.
