Emory University Campus News: Hu Joins School Of Nursing As Acting Professor, Tenure Track
Dr. Xiao Hu, most recently of Duke University, will join the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing in January 2022 as Acting Professor.

Dr. Xiao Hu, most recently of Duke University, will join the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing in January 2022 as Acting Professor, tenure track. Dr. Hu will also serve as the Associate Director of the Center for Data Science. Many in the field believe him to be the expert in signal processing of clinically relevant physiological waveforms.

Hu brings the school a unique set of skills and scholarship in machine learning, artificial intelligence, and the quickly emerging field of predictive analytics monitoring. He has created knowledge advancing the relationship among clinicians, scientists, engineers, innovators, policymakers, and healthcare administrators.
While at Dukeβs School of Nursing, Hu taught data analytics and mentored PhD students and junior faculty. He held appointments in the Pratt School of Engineering (Electrical & Computer Engineering/ Biomedical Engineering) and the School of Medicine (Neurology; Biostatistics and Bioinformatics and Surgery). His teams collaborated closely with various partners, including healthcare providers, surgeons, intensivists, cardiologists, the FDA, and even NASA.

Hu has served as principal investigator on five National Institute of Health (NIH) R01 (including two active ones), three NIH R21 research projects, and several industrial grants. He also holds nine US patents.
He will be an asset at the School of Nursing, including our innovation initiatives and the Center for Data Science, and across the university and the Woodruff Health Sciences Center.
