Five From Atlanta VA Honored With Nurse of the Year Awards
The medical center had 46 finalists and captured five of 16 categories in the ceremony sponsored by the March of Dimes Georgia Chapter.

Nurses devote their entire lives to helping others, rarely reaping widespread recognition for a job well done. Today, the spotlight is shining on five nurses recently named by the March of Dimes Georgia Chapter for its 2011 Nurse of the Year awards.
The winners were selected from nearly 500 nominations throughout Georgia and recognized for their work to provide care, comfort and support to patients in the community. Atlanta VA, with 46 finalists, captured five of the 16 categories.
Atlanta VA winners are:
- Mary Roberts, MSHA, BSN, RN, for Behavioral Health
- Rita Walker, MS, BSN, RN, for General Medical/Surgical Services
- Ora Douglass, MN, RN, for Hospice, Home Health & Palliative Care
- Marie Mompoint, DNP, RN, FNP-BC, OCN, CHPN, for Nursing Administration
- Zina Floyd, MSN, RN-BC, for Long Term Acute Care/Rehabilitation
The second annual event, which highlights nursing excellence in all specialties,
drew more than 450 attendees at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta on Nov. 19.
