Greek Festival Turnout Likely Higher Than Last Year

This year's Atlanta Greek Festival attracted more people than last year – likely due to the nice weather, a church official said.

The Atlanta Greek Festival can thank Mother Nature for a successful turnout this year, an employee with the said Monday.

Though official numbers weren't in, the weekend's pleasant weather likely attracted between 30,000 and 40,000 people, said Andrea Koulouris, a church secretary. About 30,000 people attended the festival last year, she said.

"It was a bigger crowd this year for sure," Koulouris said. "It kind of had a younger feel to it then it has in the past. We did a lot of advertising and got our name out there."

The festival made $200,000 profit on about $700,000 in revenue last year, she said. Revenue numbers for this year haven't been tallied yet, however. Proceeds from the festival go to pay for debt reduction and other church-related costs.
