Gun Collection Stolen in Series of Local Burglaries

Four burglaries have occurred near Clairmont and Briarcliff roads since July 29, DeKalb County police said.

Burglars struck three homes and a pool club near Clairmont and Briarcliff roads over the last week, including an incident where a gun collection was taken, DeKalb County police said.

The guns were stolen in the first robbery of four in a home in the 1900 block or North Ridgeway Road on July 29, the police report said. Police believe someone broke into the home between 7:40am and 4:20pm. Once inside, the burglars stole guns, a 46-inch TV, a Macintosh laptop computer, a camera, video games and Bluray movies. The guns stolen included:

  • Two .30-.06 Remington rifles
  • .308 Kimber rifle
  • .45 Kimber handgun
  • 9mm Sig Sauer handgun
  • .22 Sig Sauer long rifle
  • 12-gauge Remington shotgun
  • .380 Beretta handgun
  • .30-.06 Santa Fe rifle

The stolen collection of firearms and other accessories was valued at nearly $8,000. The total value of all the stolen items, including the guns, was nearly $14,000.

Within 48 hours, someone broke into the at 1830 Morris Landers Dr. and stole about $50 worth of food from the concessions area. Nothing more significant was missing, however, the police report said.

A burglar also broke into a home in the 1400 block of Council Bluff Drive on Tuesday. The thief broke into the victim's home between 11:35am and 1pm, while the victim was away, the police report said. The burglar got in through an unlocked patio door, activating her security system.

The thief left with about $2,000 of sterling silverware, $100 in cash and a $300 Sony stereo system.

The next incident occurred the next day on the same street. A burglar broke into a home in the 1600 block of Council Bluff Drive through a set of locked French doors leading into the basement between 8:30am and 3:45pm, the police report said.

Two flatscreen TVs and a laptop computer worth about $2,500 were stolen. The victim told police she believed someone may have been casing her home early Monday morning, however. She woke up at 2am to the sound of a person whistling outside her home. After she turned on an exterior light, she heard the noise again but could not see anyone.
