Man Pleads Guilty in I-85 Fatality Near Shallowford

Manuel Rivera pleaded guilty Monday to vehicular homicide while driving drunk in the April 25, 2010 incident.

A man pleaded guilty this to vehicular homicide while driving drunk during a 2010 incident on I-85 near Shallowford Road.

Manuel Rivera pleaded guilty Monday and will serve 12 years in prison for his role in the April 25, 2010 incident in which his BMW hit and killed Steven Naraine while he was driving northbound in I-85's southbound lane, according to a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Authorities said Rivera drove his BMW onto the wrong lane near Shallowford Road in DeKalb County and in less than a quarter of a mile collided with Naraine's Lexus in the center lane.

Naraine's car was then hit by two more cars before coming to a stop, authorities said.
