First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta is now accepting applications for the 2026 cohort of its Epiphany program, a faith-based social entrepreneurship incubator supporting startups tackling today’s most pressing challenges. Epiphany is an evergreen initiative that equips entrepreneurs developing innovative solutions to social issues with funding, mentorship, and strategic guidance. If you are an emerging founder with a vision to address societal challenges often overlooked by traditional markets, Epiphany offers the resources needed to help your venture grow. Examples of qualifying ventures include businesses that employ formerly incarcerated individuals or adults with developmental challenges, as well as enterprises offering services such as coding training for refugees or mechanical skills development in low-income communities. Since its launch, Epiphany has awarded nearly half a million dollars in grants and supported multiple successful ventures, including Refuge Coffee Co., PadSplit, and Purposeful Gourmet Foods. This isn't super-hard breaking news, but I know some residents on the western end of the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area don't often get to Shamrock Plaza, so it's probably news to them: a new battery and light bulb shop recently opened. <a href="http://www.batteriesplus.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Batteries Plus</a>, part of a nationwide chain, opened more than a month ago in the shopping center, which had been struggling with several vacancies for the last few years. (Still no signs of replacing the old Blockbuster at the end of the center next to Lawrenceville Highway.) Batteries Plus, which operates more than 530 stores in 46 states and Puerto Rico, offers you a go-to place for all your battery and light bulb needs. And not just AA batteries and stuff like that, but laptop batteries, motorcycle batteries, ATV batteries, exit sign batteries, etc. One of these opened within the last two years farther north on Lawrenceville Highway, but it'll be interesting to see if the community supports such a specific shop.
