DeKalb County police are searching for a dark navy blue 300-series BMW made in the 1990s in connection with the I-85 hit-and-run fatality of William Kear on Saturday morning.
The car will likely have moderate damage to the area of the front right grille, the headlight and possibly the hood and windshield, according to a police statement. Kear, 61, was changing his tire on the right shoulder of I-85 in a construction zone north of Clairmont Road when he saw a pickup truck crash into a lane closure sign in the HOV lane, the statement said.
Kear walked across the interstate to help out the crash victim, and he was returning to his car when he was struck by another car, which did not stop. Kear later died of his injuries at the hospital.
