POLL: If You Had a Choice, Would You Pick a Female Boss or a Male Boss?

A recent Gallup survey shows more people would choose a male boss over a female boss.

While 40 percent of respondents to a recent Gallup poll indicated they had no gender preference in terms of choosing a boss, those with a preference selected a male supervisor by a substantial margin.

The poll revealed 35 percent would choose a male boss while only 23 percent would want a female supervisor. Other key findings of the Gallup poll:

  • Both men and women prefer a male boss. Men with a preference favor a male boss by an 11-point margin while women with a preference choose a male over a female boss by a 13-point margin.
  • Democrats essentially break even in their preferences, while independents and Republicans prefer a male boss.
  • Americans between 35 and 54 the least likely to prefer a male boss. Younger Americans are generally not more likely than average, or less likely, to prefer a male boss.
