St. Pius Defensive Back Headed for All-American Bowl?

Senior Geno Smith is one of 32 students nominated from Georgia.

defensive back Geno Smith could be headed to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl after a great season with the Golden Lions.

Neighbor Newspapers ran a nice feature on him today as part of a larger series on a number of student athletes in metro area who were nominated for the yearly game, which features the 90 most talented high school players in the country. Statewide, 32 student athletes were nominated. The final roster of 90 athletes will be selected this fall.

“The last person to really put St. Pius on that stage was Kelley Cain and she did a great job with it,” Smith said. “I want to do the same if I get the opportunity. I want to show that St. Pius has good athletes and good academic kids.”

The team's coach seems to think he's a shoe-in for the roster. Smith's apparently got 37 scholarship offers, which is insane.

The game will be broadcast on TV on Jan. 7 on NBC.
