St. Pius to Host Cairo in State Quarterfinals

The Golden Lions will take home field advantage. Cairo knocked off Stephens County 40-14 to advance to the upcoming round.

will host the Cairo Syrupmakers on Friday at 7:30pm at George B. Maloof Stadium in the quarterfinals of the Georgia High School Association AAA football playoffs.

With both schools as the top seed from their respective regions, the Golden Lions won the coin toss for home field advantage. This is the second time in three years St. Pius has won a coin toss for home field in the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs when the Golden Lions hosted Peach County.

St. Pius (12-0) defeated Henry County on Friday night, 31-6. Ryan Braswell rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns while Trey White added a 55-yard score to lead the Golden Lions. St. Pius has opened the season with 12 consecutive wins for just the second time in school history. The other time was in 2009.

The Class of 2012 added to its school record win total, as it has now been victorious 42 times. The previous record of 40 wins was accomplished by the Classes of 1969 and 2010.

Cairo knocked off Stephens County, 40-14, to advance to the quarterfinals for the sixth straight season. Last year they were beaten by Carrollton, 17-0, in the same round.
