The Week in Review

The top five stories from the previous week in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

  1. : Unsurprising news. As federal testing standards continue to tighten under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, fewer schools will make Adequate Yearly Progress. In 2014, all children will be required to test at proficient levels or their schools will be considered failing. Expect more of the same.
  2. : The school may have to accept about 200 students from other schools. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Parents are mad, and in this area, they often get their way.
  3. : Commissioner Jeff Rader is asking the county to take a look at another land tract in Oak Grove for possible conversion to a park – roughly a week after the county approved the purchase of 6 acres on Lavista Road for $1.78 million. Another ongoing story.
  4. : Pretty bold robbery. Good to know about.
  5. : We're waiting to see how the nightclub responds to angry neighbors and county officials who are demanding the business get proper approvals to operate late at night.
