Regional Roundup: Athens Officer to be Remembered With Candelight Vigil, ‘Senior Prank’ Leads to 19 Arrests, Woman Rescued from Trash Chute

On March 22, there will be a public memorial, a candelight vigil, to remember and honor the life and service of SPO Buddy Christian, who was killed in the line of duty on March 22, 2011.
Chief Jack Lumpkin says the vigil will take place at West Precinct of the Athens Clarke County Police, which is in Georgia Square Mall. it will be held from 7:45 to 8:15 p.m.

The Blue Knights Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club will attend the event. They will bring with them their Memorial for Law Enforcement Officers Wall and will unveil the addition of SPO Buddy Christian’s name to the memorial.

Nineteen teenagers ages 17 to 19 were arrested Sunday in connection with the vandalism of East Paulding High. According to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office the deputies received a tip that multiple people dressed in black were spray-painting the school.
Being described as a “Senior Prank”, those involved spray painted “Senior” and “2012” across the school campus, on the guard shack, on two county vehicles, on the roadway and in the subdivision across the street. Authorities stated that more arrests in this vandalism case are probable as the investigation continues.

Amanda Still, 19, was rescued by Dunwoody Police and Dekalb Fire Department on Sunday morning after falling into her apartment complex’s trash chute.
Still told police she put her cell phone inside a McDonald’s bag and threw the bag into the trash chute. When she attempted to lean in to retrieve the bag and she fell down the chute. According to officers Still was stuck between the second and first floors for a couple of hours before being transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital of Atlanta and treated for minor injuries. No evidence of alcohol or impairment was noted.
