Retired Principal Will Run For School Board Chair

Soon after news broke that David Weeks, current chairman of the Oconee County Board of Education, , a retired principal who worked in the Oconee County school system for 19 years stepped forward to announce his intention to run for the open seat.

Tom Odom says he has the leadership experience, dedication and desire be an effective chairman.

"Education is very important to me," he said.  "One thing that comes out of it is hope for a better future."

In his career that spanned more than three decades, Odom served as principal of and , and as interim principal of . He is presently completing a term as interim principal at Westside Middle School in Barrow County.  Odom's also been an active community member through participation in the Rotary Club of Oconee County, service as the past Chair of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce, and as the current president of the M & K Foundation.
