Heavy Winds Forecast Thursday for North Georgia

Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph, the National Weather Service says in a wind advisory.

Heavy winds that could down tree limbs and scatter unsecured outdoor items are forecast Thursday for north Georgia.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from south of Covington and Newnan all the way up to the north Georgia mountains.

Winds, which are blowing in a cold front, are expected at 20-25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. The risk is highest at higher elevations, the weather service says.

The advisory is in effect until 8 p.m.

Residents are advised to secure loose objects in their yards. People should be extra careful when driving, particularly in vehicles with "high profiles."

And be aware that heavy winds could down trees or tree limbs.

The high temperature in Atlanta Thursday should be around 69 degrees, the weather service says, cooling to about 48 degrees Thursday night.
