My Fair Lady Opens at Greater Atlanta Christian

Show promises to be a spectacle for all ages!

The beloved musical My Fair Lady opens this week at Greater Atlanta Christian School in Norcross. The show features treasured songs such as (Wouldn’t It Be) Loverly,” I Could Have Danced All Nightand “Get me to the Church on Time,” in this spectacular production.

Based on the George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, My Fair Lady is considered “the perfect musical.” It is the charming story of a snooty phonetics professor who attempts to make a feisty cockney flower girl into a proper lady through speaking lessons. The book and lyrics are by Alan Jay Lerner and the music is by Frederick Loewe.

Two-time Georgia High School Musical Theatre Award winner (Schuler Award) senior Parker Jennings plays the lead role of Eliza Doolittle and junior John Michael Vestal plays Professor Henry Higgins. The roles were originally performed in 1956 by Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison on Broadway, with Audrey Hepburn playing Eliza in the movie.

Directed by GACS’ new drama teacher Kristy Winkes, the show features more than 40 students, hundreds of spectacular costumes and the largest set the school has ever built for a show. The experience starts in the theatre lobby adorned as a London market with flower carts, vendors and opportunities to take red-carpet selfies.

“This is an iconic show for the whole family; our production does not disappoint,” said Winkes. “It is indeed grand, one of the grandest productions done at GACS. Parents, staff and students have been working hard to make this show a phenomenal experience, and it’s been a wonderful time. I am very proud of the work we have done and the commitment of the cast and crew.
