Peachtree Corners' Own Ora B. Douglass Receives Appointment
Douglass Appointed to Lead Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated's International Service Programs

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated held its international conference in Houston, TX in July 2018. The meeting included the transition of the organization’s leadership to Dr. Glenda Glover, the 30th International President, who laid out a plan for new programs that align to the organization’s mission of Service to All Mankind. In conjunction with launching the themed program "Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service," Dr. Glover announced the appointment of Ora B. Douglass of Peachtree Corners, Georgia to International Program Committee Chairman.
In laying out the plan that Mrs. Douglass will execute, Dr. Glover stated, "Alpha Kappa Alpha will exemplify excellence as we implement new programs that will continue to propel our mission of Service to All Mankind to greater heights. Our programs will be impactful, measurable and sustainable as we focus on addressing domestic and global issues affecting children, women and families. One of the cornerstones of this administration will be the continued support of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as we enhance our international agenda to raise the profiles of these unique institutions of higher education."
Mrs. Douglass will lead a committee with representation from the 10 regions of the sorority in providing direction and oversight of the program over the next four years. The program defines the framework for Alpha Kappa Alpha’s commitment to service that is embraced by its 300,000 members and over 1000 chapters located throughout the world. The program platform consists of five program targets, a signature program and seven international community “Impact” service days. Douglass and her team have already started guiding the 110-year old organization towards achieving its program goals over the next four years through the development of detailed program planning materials.

Douglass is a dedicated Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha with over forty years of service. She was initiated into the Beta Alpha Chapter at Florida A&M University in May 1977. Through the years, she has served at the chapter level as President, Vice-President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and chairman of various committees including Programs, Standards and Strategic Planning. She has also served as the South Atlantic Region Standards Committee Chairman and member of the International Standards Committee. Additionally, she has provided leadership in planning and executing medical assistance teams for regional and international conferences. In 2015, Mrs. Douglass led a group of members in the chartering of the Psi Omega Omega Chapter in Peachtree Corners, Georgia, where she has served as President for nearly four years.
Mrs. Douglass earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Florida A&M University and her Master of Nursing Degree in Nursing Administration at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Last year, she retired from an esteemed career of over 37 years of progressive clinical, managerial, and healthcare administration. Her profession afforded her the opportunity to live her passion of serving and helping others. She is a veteran of the US Army Nurse Corps, with over 13 years of service in the US Army in Hawaii and the US Army Reserves in Atlanta. She established a track record of success as medical professional across multiple health care organizations including the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, Grady Memorial Hospital, Northside Hospital and Emory University Hospital. As a nursing administrator, Mrs. Douglass gained extensive experience in strategic and tactical planning, coordinating, implementing, directing and evaluating all components of programs, particularly quality management. She leverages these core competencies to enable success in her community service as with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Mrs. Douglass is a former board member for Not one More Life – Asthma Program and Interfaith Outreach Home and is the 2011 recipient of the March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Award.

She is married to Dr. Adrian Douglass, they have four adult children, and one grandson.
