Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:

  1. The City of Alpharetta has followed in Roswell's footsteps with its recent agreement to allow Fulton County to oversee the municipal elections in November. This decision was made by a unanimous vote by the city's council on April 17. Initially the cities of Roswell, Milton, Alpharetta and Johns Creek talked about ending this relationship with the county and hiring a joint superintendent. However, the City of Milton was the only city that broke away from the county and will manage its own elections management plan for November's election. The council also okayed the first reading of the ordinance that will allow the county's Board of Registration and Elections as the superintendent for elections. (appenmedia.com)
  2. A major mixed-use development is being planned for the North Metro area. More than 100 acres in Forsyth County is planned to be used for a premier mixed-used space that is said to be bigger than The Battery in Cobb County. The Gathering at South Forsyth will be a collection of shops, restaurants and residential living. A billion-dollar arena is also in the plans for this complex. Local businessman, Vernon Krause, the owner of 15 car dealerships throughout the Southeast is behind this project. The Gathering at South Forsyth's goal is to be the "entertainment hub" for North Metro Atlanta and North Georgia. (wsbtv.com)
  3. Mayor Wilson was joined by Councilmembers Lee Hills, Christine Hall and representatives from the transportation department on April 19 to discuss recent improvements made to parking and safety in the downtown area. The current employee parking section at City Hall will be redesigned and turned into public parking. The city employee section will be moved. There will be a direct, open, lighted pathway from the new lot that goes to Canton Street. The mayor also documented the Grand Opening of Roswell's new RRFB crosswalk, another opening and walkway to Canton Street and downtown. (facebook.com)
