Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:

  1. The Georgia Army National Guard is aiming to increase the recruitment and awareness of their program among high school students. They have begun an initiative that focus on 67 Georgia public high schools, including those in our area. Students at high schools in Roswell, Johns Creek, Dunwoody, Alpharetta and Milton will be marketed to with location-based advertising by using geofencing. The Media Relations Manager for Fulton County Schools stated that the "school system is not involved with the Georgia National Guard’s advertising plans but does supply student directory information to aid in military recruitment, as required by Georgia law." (appenmedia.com)
  2. Roswell365.com is the city's new website that will be the hub for events and activities throughout Roswell. The calendar is sponsored by the city and notes not only events held by the city, but also those of local non-profits, businesses, civic groups, etc. Mayor Kurt Wilson believes that “This is a wonderful tool that highlights all the activities occurring in our vibrant city.” Local businesses, organizations and those who are organizing a community event can sign up for an account to post their group's events. (roswellgov.com)
  3. The development of Groveway Apartments is underway and the chair of the Roswell Housing Authority, Karen Parrish, said the "group has about 2,000 people on a waiting list for the Grove Way homes." Recent changes were made to the redevelopment plan at the Roswell City Council meeting on March 27. One of those changes was to remove the requirement to spend about $200,000 on public art and refocus those funds on housing. It will still have public art in the new development, but the city council wanted to remove the financial requirement. Also, the Gainesville Housing Authority, who manages the Roswell Housing Authority, said that the Roswell Police Department has asked about potentially using the condemned site to run drills. A decision has yet to be made on that request. (appenmedia.com)
