Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:
- The Roswell City Council has made an agreement with the City of Alpharetta, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and Fulton County to allow Alpharetta to provide housing for inmates at the Alpharetta Jail. Therefore, people who are charged with or convicted of a federal, state or local law violation or who are held as a material witness in Roswell will be transported to the Alpharetta Jail on Old Milton Parkway. Roswell will pay and/or reimburse Alpharetta via a pro-rata share of the facility's utility costs while in use by the sheriff. Roswell will pay a $60 fee for each inmate booked into the jail, in addition to a $60 holding fee each calendar day a Roswell inmate is housed in the Alpharetta facility. Also per the agreement, the Roswell Police Department will transport Roswell inmates to municipal court and local healthcare facilities. Any offsite medical expenses that inmates may require, will also be the responsibility of the City of Roswell. (Paywall: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- The Song of Atlanta, a women’s a cappella chorus, will be gracing the stage at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center later this month. This award-winning group will share their production of “Unleash Your Superhero,” on the afternoon of April 30. This renowned group is named one of the top three choirs in the world by the organization Sweet Adelines International. The singers of the Presto Quartet, Dunwoody High School Sound Waves and the Atlanta Vocal Project will also be featured in this performance. Tickets are now on sale and more information is available at the Cultural Arts Center. (newsbreak.com)
- The Georgia Ensemble Theater (GET) has called Roswell and the Roswell Cultural Arts Center its home for over 30 years. However, due to a canceled contract, the group will be leaving the city and moving to the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre in Marietta. GET has been operating according to a Resident Theatre contract that permitted the company to manage everything related to production. However in the 2022 fiscal year, the theater company only showcased three of the five productions that were agreed-upon with the city. It also experienced a high turnover rate amongst production managers in the past two years. Roswell presented a new model to outline the partnership which gave Roswell the right to assist GET with production, marketing, managing the box office and patron services and collecting revenue. A resolution between the groups was not made, therefore their contract was canceled at March's Roswell Recreation Commission meeting. (appenmedia.com)
