Here are the top four stories today in Roswell:

  1. A Roswell man reported to police that he has lost about $80,000 in a sweepstakes scam. The victim told police that he received a call from someone claiming to be a representative from Publisher’s Clearing House who stated that he had won $10.5 million and a car. He was instructed that his only duty was to dispatch payments for the taxes and other expenses in relation to this win. Before he realized he had been scammed, the victim sent approximately $120,000 to six different people. He was able stop the payments on checks amounting to $40,000, however $80,000 had already been cashed. The resident gave the Roswell Police Department his records of the names and addresses to which he mailed checks to. (appenmedia.com)
  2. The city's annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will take place on May 13 from from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the Public Works, Transportation, and Fire Facilities on Hembree Rd. This will be an opportunity for Roswell residents to dispose of hazardous waste and materials safely. This collection day is not for commercial businesses, but for residential citizens only. The city will be taking materials such as turpentine, household cleaners, pesticides, gasoline, mercury thermometers, motor oil and much more. They will not take latex and oil-based paint; these items are accepted at the Roswell Recycling Center. 3. Fulton county Schools has released more information regarding the abrupt departure of River Eves Elementary School's principal. Former Principal Matthew Donahoe suddenly resigned on April 13 for personal reasons. His resignation was effective immediately and parents were notified that same day. Brian Noyes, the Chief Communications Officer for Fulton County Schools, says that the county's goal is to "announce a new principal 'before the end of the school year so they can work over the summer.'” Fulton County Schools also reiterated that Donahoe's reason for leaving was strictly personal and not related to administrative actions. The county will look to receive public feedback and opinion by issuing a survey to parents of River Eves ES students, teachers, and staff. The survey will remain open until Friday, April 28. 4. A tense boys lacrosse matchup between rivals Roswell High School and Blessed Trinity High School occurred on Friday April 21. In this final game of the season, the Blessed Trinity Titans vied to keep their undefeated season record. The game was intense the entire way through, and both teams' scores remained close throughout each quarter. By the fourth quarter the teams were tied, however with 1:36 left in the game, Roswell player, Hill Plunkett scored and put Roswell in the lead. The Hornets were able to run the game out, take the win, and break Blessed Trinity's record. (newsbreak.com)
