Here are the top three stories in Roswell today:
- Have you met the Roswell Police Department's K-9 Unit? The police department works with three K-9 teams to capture suspects, to detect drug and various items, building searches, and to make special appearances at events. There is one handler for every K-9 team. Each K-9 in the department is in fact an officer themselves. The Roswell Police Department made a video that details the comprehensive and exhaustive training that the K-9s and handlers undertake. (Roswell Police Department via Facebook)
- Visit Roswell's Executive Director Andy Williams has been named by the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus the 2023 as president of the trade association. This appointment was announced at the February conference. Williams will lead a 12-member board of regional leaders and professionals in the destination and tourism industry. Jay Markwalter, the Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus says that “Andy is a proven leader with a diverse background in understanding and strategically capitalizing on the many segments of the travel and convention business markets.” The trade association aims to “maximize the impact of visitor economy" through laws, education and development. - The Groveway Apartments have finally been cleared for demolishment and plans to rebuild are expected to begin in 2024. All of the residents in the building of 40-units have been relocated. Councilmember Lee Hills says the the city plans to tear down the site within the next few months. The construction of the new development will take about 18 months, and once completed, the units will be for senior citizens with disabilities. There is another apartment community across the street from the Groveway Apartments that Roswell says they'll redevelop in a couple of years. (WSB Atlanta)
