Here are the top three stories today in Roswell:

  1. Joe Gransden is a bandleader and singer who comes highly acclaimed. Gransden is also a resident of Roswell. He has recently partnered with the City of Roswell Arts & Culture department to bring an electrifying performance to the city. Joe Gransden and his quartet will play will play compositions jazz music and music from the big band era. His show, titled "The Art of the Song," will be "a celebration of the swingin’ music that has inspired generations and crossed over into many musical genres." Kenny Banks Sr., a jazz maestro, will be one of his special guest. The concert will take place on Sunday, June 4, at the Cultural Arts Center. (Creative Loafing)
  2. A 22-year-old Roswell man was arrested for aggravated assault outside a restaurant on Holcomb Bridge Road on April 16. Witnesses reported to police that the man had hit and injured another person with a glass bottle. The victim had visible wounds on the face and chest. They were treated by police then transported to North Fulton Hospital. After receiving statements from witnesses and the accused, that were in agreement, Roswell Police arrested the attacker and he was transported to the Fulton County Jail. (appenmedia.com)
  3. The ArtsBridge Foundation recently announced the winners of the 15th Annual Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards (GHSMTA) aka the Shuler Awards. The ceremony was aired on the Georgia Public Broadcasting network. Roswell High School represented the city well. The high school's theater department won three awards for its productions of the play, "Bright Star." The school won the most honors at the program. Roswell High School was recognized as having one of the best high school musical theatre departments in the state.   • City of Roswell, Georgia Government: The City of Roswell is considering closing Canton Street from Highway 9 to Webb Street for vehicles for the summer. This will include Elizabeth Way. The city will be meeting with business owners along Canton Street to receive their opinions. The city will keep residents updated accordingly. (City of Roswell, Georgia via Instagram)
  • Roswell Next: The What's NEXT? Music Fest has been postponed to next week due to weather conditions. They have moved the event to the evening Thursday, May 4, and will be held regardless of the weather. This delay allows more time to invite a friend. (Roswell Next via Facebook)
  • City of Roswell, Georgia: Although April is coming to an end, it's still National Volunteer Month. There are plenty opportunities to volunteer your time and talents throughout the city.   • Roswell, Georgia Police Department: Last Saturday was the DEA's National Prescription Drug Takeback day. The Roswell Police Department collected 125 pounds of prescription medications that will be disposed of safely.   • Roswell Farmers & Artisans Market: The farmers and artisans market is in full swing. This week the market is highlighting one of the longtime vendors. Jen Tice is the owner and creator of Evolve Botanica. She specializes in natural skincare, mineral soaks, crystals, and much more. She has been called the "queen of everything".
