Roswell Recognizes Retiring Tourism Executive Director

Dotty Etris is retiring from the position she's held since 1992.

ROSWELL, GA — Roswell Mayor Lori Henry and members of the Roswell City Council on Dec. 10 recognized Dotty Etris, the outgoing executive director of the Roswell Convention and Visitors Bureau. Etris will retire at the end of the year after 27 years of service to the city.

A proclamation was read at the Monday, Dec. 10 City Council meeting, which credited her with establishing the Chattahoochee Nature Center, Roswell Folk & Heritage Bureau, the first oral arts certificate course in the nation in storytelling, and a partnership that designated Ga. 400 as the state's Hospitality Highway from Buckhead to Dahlonega.

During her tenure, Etris has served on numerous boards, including the Atlanta Metro Travel Association, Southeast Tourism Society, Roswell Rotary Club, Fulton Arts North. Kennesaw State Theatre Advisory Board and the North Fulton Hospital Woman’s Advisory Board.

She was also recognized by the American Business Women’s Association in 2010 as a Phenomenal Woman of North Fulton, and was honored by Gov. Nathan Deal in 2014 with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Of note was Etris’ assistance in the transition of the Roswell CVB Marketing Partnership Program into what it is now known as Roswell Inc. Etris, who will retire at the end of the year, "has been the driving force behind the growth of the tourism industry in Roswell, providing shrewd fiscal leadership and tourism expertise while guiding the Roswell Convention and Visitors Bureau into the 21st Century," the city added.

Effective Jan. 1, Andy Williams will become the new executive director of Roswell CVB.
