Sports Roundup: Roswell Volleyball Season Ends

The Hornets also suffered a tough loss in football while Fellowship Christian won in a thriller.

Roswell's quest for a state high school volleyball championship has come to an end, thanks to a North Fulton rival. 

The Lady Hornets lost 3-1 to Chattahoochee Saturday in the Georgia High School Association Class AAAAAA quarterfinals. 

Roswell had been among the contenders when the state playoffs began, and the loss was the second of the season to Chattahoochee. 

The Lady Hornets finished with a 38-14 record. Chattahoochee, which is 47-9, will play host to Johns Creek in the semifinals on Wednesday. 

Football

Roswell's hopes of earning a playoff bid took a hit Friday when Cherokee mounted a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat the Hornets 34-29. 

Roswell led most of the second half, but surrendered the game-winning touchdown with five seconds remaining in the game. 

The Hornets are 4-4 overall and 2-3, fifth place in Region 5-AAAAAA, with two games to play. 

Centennial's long season grew longer in a 28-24 loss to North Forsyth, as the Knights fell to 1-7 and 1-4 in Region 6-AAAAAA.

Fellowship Christian kicked a field goal with 11 seconds to play to earn a 24-21 win over King's Ridge Christian for the first time ever. 

The Paladins are 5-3 overall and 2-2 in Region 6B-A.
